The Off-Ice Edge was created by David Lipetz MSPT, OCS,
Cert.MDT, the president and founder of Analytical Human Motion,
Inc. David is a physical therapist specializing in biomechanics
and sports performance. He holds a dual board certification
in clinical orthopedics and spinal disorders. Additionally,
he is a former Division I athlete for Rutgers University and
as a youngster, was heavily involved with both ice and in-line
skating.
David specializes in movement analysis and works with elite
athletes such as figure skaters and professional dancers. He
also collaborates with professional coaches that are looking
to maximize their skater's performance with off-ice conditioning,
or need to rehabilitate their injured skater.
David's initial introduction to dancers and figure skaters was
in California, where he was the founder and director of a boutique
orthopedic physical therapy practice in Los Angeles. He now
operates a similar practice in Garden City, New York.
Over the last decade, David has witnessed a dramatic change
in the complexity of figure skating and physical requirements
that are now required to perform at a competitive level. David
noticed a more particular involvement with the younger skaters,
especially the female population. *It has always been his belief
that the female anatomy, with regards to the pelvis and it's
interaction with the lower extremity, predisposes these young
female skaters to injury.
David has also holds the belief that some of the off-ice conditioning
programs that are offered to the figure skating community involve
generic conditioning activities and do not incorporate the musculature,
or balance systems associated with on-ice biomechanics.
David's goal was to create an off-ice training aid that can
most accurately reproduce the present day on-ice physical demands
of the lower extremity, pelvis and core musculature.
With his understanding of the musculoskeletal system, biomechanics,
physics and clinical experience in treating athletes that suffer
from lower back, hip, knee and ankle pain, he was able to develop
an off-ice figure skating training aid that recreated the on-ice
environment.
David's goal was to provide the figure skating community with
an off-ice training aid that would compliment other off-ice
methods of training such as plyometrics, ballet, and various
modes of stretching. Ultimately, he wanted to create an off-ice
training aid that would maximize performance on-ice, prevent
injury and fill a void in our present day off-ice training regimens.
In early 2008, the Off-Ice Edge was born.
David offers private off ice conditioning on the Off-Ice Edge
at his clinic in Garden City New York. For more information,
